moving into virginia and north carolina. we have torrential downfalls right now. you see new york city is at 33 degrees. that's going to be an area where we will see that snow start off as rain and then it changes in the back side of the storm. so most of today, it's okay in new york city but then it turns into tonight. we do are blizzard warnings in the bright pink here. that's an area where we could end up with two feet of snow. there's only really been four snowstorms with two feet of snow in boston. this could be the fifth one and a crippling storm. >> living up to the label historic. >> absolutely. >>> turning now to california where a massive manhunt has the los angeles area on virtual lockdown. the lapd even putting extra security at their headquarters because the spblgt used to be one of their own. christopher dorner is wanted in multiple shootings spanning six days. the 33-year-old said he's declaring war with the lapd after losing his job. according to his late and rambling manifesto, he wants to revenge until his name is clear. he writes the violence of action will be high.

on the roads is going to be just treacherous from areas like new york city up through hartford through providence, rhode island and over into boston too and moving into central and northern new england. it's coming in pieces. we have a lot of moisture network with and a lot of cold air moving in as well. blizzard warnings are posted all along the coast of new england with eastern massachusetts likely the area that will get hit the hardest with power outages, a lot of wind damage, wind gusts could be as high as about 60 to 65 miles per hour. you can see boston could end up with more than two feet of snow. new york city should be closer to six to ten inches and hartford 12 to 18. that's the east. out west we have some weather of your own from san francisco down into l.a. we have a lot of showers out that way and those will continue to affect the coast of l.a. temperatures will only be in the 40s and 50s on the elko, nevada could end up with a wintry mix. snow in the northeast and rain in california. it should wind down tomorrow. >> i would take the rain if i had a choice. >> so i would.

off the coast. that's why we spared areas from new york city, d.c., philly, up there, even most of connecticut didn't see heavy snow. this was primarily just extreme eastern new england. this was a huge storm. this storm was a storm with some hurricanes, maybe stronger than some hurricanes. that's why it was windy through the northeast. still windy this morning. just gusted to 46 miles per hour. we're finally seeing the winds dying down around new york city, philly, hartford. gusty from providence northward. the winds will die down, but be thankful with the holiday kids aren't at the bus stop. windchills in the negative numbers through new england. minus five in august a. minus eight in albany. single digits from new york to philly to baltimore. you get the jist of it. not a pretty morning in new england. it was a miserable sunday. as far as the midwest goes, the next storm, this is an active pattern. we've got the next storm coming. there's another in the gulf of alaska that will be a more powerful storm swinging through the west into the middle of the country thursday. we'll s

to new york city is kind of a question mark. we have blizzard watches that have now been issued for areas of southern connecticut and that's new. last night, from boston to providence. so the i-95 corridor is the biggest area of concern for the heavy snow, the gusty winds, probably impossible travel on i-95. all of new england and much of new york state is under the winter storm watch. now, as far as our computers go, we're looking at the heaviest snowfall amounts. you're talking historic snows possibly in that i-95 corridor from the boston to providence corridor. about 20 inches of snow for this area. then a little less from new haven to new york city because we may get a winter mix during the day on friday. changing over to snow on the back side. as far as historic goes, the best chance of that happening, the coastal flooding, the damaging winds, hurricane force winds that would be on cape cod 'the i-95 corridor from boston to providence. if you're traveling there, you're not going to do it friday into saturday. that's a look at your national forecast. now here's a look at the weather o
